ANNE ARUNDEL CO, MD - The Orchard Beach Volunteer Fire Company held it's annual Open House, Sunday, October 22, 2006. The event was sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary and the general membership. This year the company treated visitors to live demonstrations and much more.
Hundreds were on attendance watching live K-9 demonstrations from the Chesapeake Search and Rescue Dog Association, The Maryland State Police Aviation Division and the Anne Arundel County Sheriffs Department. Other events included an hourly puppet show, free Blood Pressure screening and apparatus rides.
The Orchard Beach Volunteers receive money from Anne Arundel County and other grants to operate yearly. But it's the citizen donations that that allows them to purchase updated equipment. "This is a good time to show the citizens just where their donations go and how that money is spent," says Bill Milliken, Assistant Chief.
Each year, the Orchard Beach Volunteer Firefighters hold an open house in October to celebrate Fire Prevention and to remind their citizens to change their smoke detector batteries when they turn their clocks back. This month the date to set your clocks is October 29th. The volunteers next event will be held November 18th and 19th, when they will be holding their first annual "Vendor Fair."
